The white are for the latter ( chlorine etc). If you are filtering tap water you will need both, if you are filtering well water you only need black. **Q: Are these authentic berkey filters? the berkley company (new millennium concepts, ltd.) have claimed there are a lot of fakes out there being sold.** A: When ordered I got the genuine filter. Now I have no clue what they are shipping and that’s Berkey’s fault 100% They have way too many authorized distributors and don’t go after offenders / counterfeiters . They totally suck as a company from an operational point. For that reason, next time I need filters I’m going straight to propurusa and ordering their filters.
