Quality lighter! - I used to have a black Zippo lighter decades ago, but somehow it wasn't quite "ladylike", so I started using very expensive piezo-mechanism designer lighters, which would break sooner or later, I then moved onto simple disposable lighters, but their quality deteriorated as time went on - even the refillable ones never lasted more than two refills! So I tried - and failed - to find my old faithful, reliable black Zippo. I was rather surprised how much a new Zippo lighter costs, and - being a pensioner, careful with money and no longer caring about image - I found this lighter, which looks like a Zippo, has a similar mechanism and was more than ten times cheaper. After reading the reviews, I thought that it might be pot luck in whether I would get a good one or waste my money, but decided to take the risk. I'm so glad I did! What a bargain! The lighter works great. It's comfortable in the hand, the lighter mechanism comes out easily. The light stays on in the wind and rain. I repacked the rayon, refolded the wick, all easy. However, the lighter must have been held in stock for some time, because the only thing that gave me trouble was replacing the flint - the spring got stuck inside the metal tube and wouldn't just drop out as I expected it to (hence only 4 stars for Ease of Use). But I took a piece of strong thin wire, made a tiny hook at one end, inserted it into the tube, hooked the spring, and pulled it out. It didn't take much effort, and luckily the spring wasn't distorted. I cleaned and polished the inside of the tube using a wooden toothpick, and hey presto, everything works great now. I'm now completely happy with this lighter, and like it's chunky weight - it's so much easier to use than flimsy disposable lighters, especially for aging, mildly arthritic fingers. I was expecting a dud, given the price, but got an absolute gem of a lighter, and am really pleased with my purchase. Thank you desertcart and the Seller! I've stocked up on flints and wicks, and have no doubt that this lighter will give me years of reliable service. In fact, I might buy another one to have a spare, in case I lose this one... Reasonably priced. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ money well spent *by F***E on 14 December 2012* Monetarily wise this is a cheap product designed for long term use at a throwaway price. Quality wise it is on the top side of adequate - packaging is basic, finish is basic (no rough edges, parts fit where they are supposed to and do that well but the rivet in the hinge of the one I received sits a little proud), the screw and the stopper on the spring (that holds the flint in place) are both loose - so if it goes flying you will have nightmares trying to find them :-), the end felt has a lovely little hole in it just right for the spout of the petrol can so it doesn't have to be held back for filling - great idea but it does mean you can't see how much fuel you are delivering. Looks are good if you like the silver finish of polished chrome. Function wise it is top-notch, does the job just great and far better than its 10+ year old predecessor buried somewhere under the new hedging. Unlike gas lighters whose fuel dispensers are tightly sealed, the nature of petrol lighters is such that, if left unused, the fuel will evaporate. For this reason petrol lighters do not come ready to use. They have to be fuelled first. The amount of fuel delivered is unimportant providing there is enough to wet the wick, so you can put in sufficient for a day or top up for the week. When it runs out the wick will stop lighting. Unlike cheap throwaways, these lighters are designed for long term use so the flints are replaceable. As the flint wears down the spring holding it in place stretches back to its full extension. When it does that there may be inadequate pressure to get a good spark so it does need to be tightened from time to time - tighten it too far in the first place and you will not be able to strike it at all! Practise will enable you to find the happy medium in both cases. A petrol lighter will spark but fail to light for three reasons: not enough fuel, flint too loose or worn down, wick needs trimming. Cater to these whims and it will serve you well, possibly even for a lifetime - or at least until you get fed-up of it, or lose it like I did my last two. (Of course, I suppose with awfully long-term use, the strike wheel may wear out - but that is a whole other story and I have never had it happen yet.) When purchasing this item do bear in mind that you will require lighter fuel and flints if you do not already have these in stock.
