I like that this device allows me to operate the lift gate while stabilizing the load on the gate. The magnetic backing is helpful and it comes with a plastic caddy. I will not leave this in the weather and cannot attest to it being water proof/resistant. The plastic is sturdy and the unit feels well built as though it could survive multiple drops.
