I bought some cheap supermarket bowls - and after a couple of weeks, two had somehow chipped round the rim and generally felt like what they were. These Royal Doulton bowls somehow make breakfast taste better ! They are very well made, with a high quality glazed finish. The inside is slightly ridged and good to eat out of. The bowls are 7" across and hold a very generous bowl of shreddies. I don't plan to test this but they feel like they would cope with being knocked or caught on a table top. From posts on other sites, it is seems that mugs manufactured earlier were slightly larger. **Q: Is it microwave safe? The description only mentioned that it's dishwasher safe. Also, what about putting in oven for heat up?** A: It is microwave safe too. I don't know if I'd put it in the oven since it doesn't indicate that. We love it though..its been our main set. No where can I find tHe dimensions?????** A: The dinner plate is 11 inches across, but it is not a flat plate it rises slightly up, no gravy will spill over these. The flat center section is around 7 1/2 inches. You can fill up the entire plate though. I love these dishes. **Q: is the color white or off white?** A: It’s a very subtle off-white, very sophisticated. When you’re looking down at the bowl, you will see white, not yellow. Many uses without being too big, the colour although it says white, is not a bright white, more of an off white, ivory colour. Which suits me as the rest of my crockery is a similar colour so these bowls blend in well.
