The plastic is quite thin but thick enough to provide good protection. The size is great too: it covers my desk and more, and because the plastic is thin, it is quite pliable and so I just fold the ends over the sides of the table so I don't need to cut it. I will say that it scratches somewhat easily and ink marks don't come out that great.
