I sharpened my first knife, and did the paper cut test, before and after using the sharpener. I must say it did a really nice job, and took out the ridges I had in my knife from cutting things I shouldn't have!With that being said, I first used the course side on the left to take out the imperfections on the blade, and then finished it on the smooth/fine right side. My knife felt and cut perfectly. I have to say that for the money this is an outstanding sharpener to have around!I took it over my son's house and he sharpened his hunting knife with it, and he also did the paper cut test, and it cut right through without effort!I've seen knife cutters sell for so much more than this one, and I don't see any difference as they both have the same sharpening mechanisms.
