However, if you have a child who is keen to skate often, I would skip this and go straight to size-adjustable roller blades. The trainer setting is nice but not that much easier than rollerblading to make it a necessary step. My 6-year old switched from trainer to inline within a week, and I feel she would have been fine starting out on inline skates.The wheels are not durable enough to handle outdoor use - they are already showing a lot of wear and tear after only a month of not-too-frequent use. So, I would recommend only using them at indoor rinks.Also, there are only two closure buckles which leaves the boots loose and gaping at the ankle - exactly where it looks like my daughter's feet could use extra support when she's skating.Because the protective gear came as part of the set, my daughter wants to wear it all together, every time. So, indoors or out, she's skating with her full gear on, helmet and all. Only thing is, the set doesn't come with elbow pads, and the advice I've read on skating sites suggests that elbow pads are just as essential as the other pieces of protective gear. Gets them off their butts & outside doing physical activity! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Does the trick but quality could be better *by K***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2013* I got these for my 5YO son for Christmas so he is still climbing the learning curve (while his 3YO sister, who received the Fisher Price 1-2-3 first learning skates was able to master them a lot faster). Generally he finds these to be uncomfortable so he doesn't last long skating. However, my biggest complaint is that only one of the 4 buckles actually clicks into place and stays buckled. We have to constantly re-buckle the other ones - which may be one reason that they are difficult to use! The buckles are so cheaply made that I am just waiting for them to break outright. My daughter's skates attach over her shoes using a velcro strap which stays put so I wish that these would have had a "lower tech" but higher quality feature like that. Also - regarding sizing, they do run a bit small. I ordered the 1-4 size after reading the reviews and thinking that my son was a size 11 toddler. I panicked when I measured his foot and found he is still only size 9.5T!
