The chalk pen is embedded permanently in the old board. This one comes with the chalk pen that actually wipes off. The fact that these boards clean off so easily makes it better than other similar products. The boards on this are about the size of an average piece of paper, and it sits in a wooden base. A strong breeze will blow it over due to the design so keep that in mind if you plan to use this outdoors. If you use it inside, it shouldn't have any problems standing on its own. That was the only negative I saw in this product. It does the job, is easy to set up and cleans up easily. They love them.Pros: The boards take the chalk well and look nice when written or drawn on. The white chalk pen included works well, no issues. It erases easily with a damp cloth. The kids had a great time testing these out- they went straight to trying out math problems and writing their names. The stands also work well and are nice to have for display. These could work great for a small party or event that needed creative signs too.Cons: The boards have a roughness, almost plastic like surface that feels a bit cheap. I also wish they had a boarder that protected the inside. I think the exposed interior pressed material probably is going to decrease its longevity. I may try adding a sealant along the edges to prevent swelling in the future.
