It's completely hollow, made of aluminum, and feels like I'm holding a child's toy. After just a few hard hits, and you have to hit things really hard because it's so light, the handle became a little loose and I noticed that the side of the mallet started to come off. The mallet head is not one piece - it's a hollow cube and one of the sides is just held in place with friction/tension - and it started to come off.
