Review: Excellent strings, good sound, very reasonable price - I've had several jazz guitars over the years, Gibson, Heritage and two Cort Larry Corells, and on these I like to use flatwound strings. I usually used D'Addario Chromes but they have certainly gone up in price to nearly £20 and I thought I would try a lower-priced set. These have exceeded expectations in tone terms, and sound good all over the fingerboard. An area where flatwounds can sound dull is when playing the lower strings higher up the neck, around the 12th fret area, but these sound really good! Of course much depends on the guitar body, pickups and amp, but these strings leave nothing to be desired. As for their longevity, I cannot say as it's only been a week since they've been on the archtop, but flats tend to last a long time if you keep them clean, longer than roundwound for obvious physical reasons. In this case 105.5 cm. Haven't found a guitar that they don't fit. **Q: A bit of an odd one, but i need to curb the high end in my tone, do flatwounds have a similar affect on guitar as they do on bass?** A: I do not play a 6 only 4 string bass, of which all that I have (4) are strung with flat wound strings. Surely it has to be a matter of personal taste, I bought a Horner brand new out of the box, it had round wound strings on it and to my inexperienced ears it sounded awful. I took it to the local witch doctor, he took one look at it and said “you got the wrong strings on it mate, they are too long and too heavy, you will break the back of the thing”. He sad to get the right strings which I did, got ot set up and, to my ears, it sounded like a different bass, beautiful. **Q: Is the g string wound in this set..? if so, is it as smooth as the e, a & d strings..?** A: No - the 3rd string is wound.
