Before, I was constantly cleaning the entrance way. It's large enough to be able to stand on to remove muddy boots and feels nice underfoot. We look after dogs from time to time and it's great to be able to stand them on the mat to wipe their paws. The mat absorbs dirt easily. One dog we had raced into the house before I could stop him but left no muddy paw marks on the carpet. The colours are great as well and it doesn't show the dirt. My only criticism is that it does move (it's on carpet) but having said that so did the mat I had down before. Hasn't needed to be washed yet, so I can't comment on that.
