The cover is a thick, cardstock-ish material, but the whole notebook is bound with a layer of glassine paper that, although crinkly at first, will soften and feel pretty nice to the touch. The pages are a good thickness, and it holds all types of ink well, including fountain pen ink. Each side of a page is split into two sections if that's useful for you, and the lines are a good size for writing (around college-ruled size?).
