With the 2nd devotional I realized that it’s from a catholic perspective and I am not catholic so the there was a verse that I couldn’t find and new it wasn’t a book of the Bible (new King James Version) and I researched it and realized it is included in the catholic bible. So if you follow that religion I would recommend but if you do not then I would not recommend ### ⭐⭐ Good points but not well written *by K***S on Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2019* I'm about two thirds of the way through the book and, don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed it. I've always loved filling out these sorts of pages, which have some more direction than just journaling in a blank notebook. I don't know where she got the "H" theme, but it works. It has been very encouraging.However, some of the basic things that you think should be there aren't. I know that it's from a Catholic perspective and with the exception of one Bible verse lookup that wasn't in a typical Bible, you wouldn't know the difference. Honestly, though, a lot of the verses that are put down to look up and reflect on at the end of each chapter made it look like she just googled "ok, what verses have this one word in them?" For example, I just got done with the chapter called, "Honey", talking about counting the smaller blessings in life and referencing that "honey" in the promised land signaled to the Israelites that blessings would about Two of the verses, though, are about God's wrath when he was telling the Israelites that they would NOT have the Promised Land because of their disobedience. Another verse cited in the last chapter, called "Heritage", just said "and Ahab summoned Obadiah, who was in charge of his palace." (1 Kings 18:3). Those were seriously disappointing. Also, some of the initial paragraphs of the chapters I feel like I could have written better in all honesty. For example, the chapter on "Humility" has an entire two pages just about serving others rather than talking about what's going on in the heart when someone is humble, as serving others is at best a very small aspect of humility, or at worse a serious misconception of humility since there are plenty of individuals who serve others that are the most prideful individuals ever.So sorry for the long description, but I just wanted you to get an accurate depiction. I wouldn't buy it again, personally, but it's ok so far. If some of the aspects weren't misleading, I'd say that it's a good book for very new believers, but honestly I wouldn't even recommend it to them. ### ⭐ Not What I Was Expecting *by I***D on Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2019* I'm half way through this book and honestly, I'm not sure I want to finish it. For one thing, many of the verses are taken out of context. It seems like the author used Google to find verses with specific words in them and didn't bother reading the surrounding verses to make sure it fit the actual topic. This can be very misleading to someone who doesn't have experience studying the Bible. Also, the length of the chapters are very inconsistent and not all of them have questions at the end. If I'm going to do a journaling devotional, I want questions at the end of every chapter so I can think about and process what I've read. One thing that bothered me, too, in the chapter titled "Health," there's a chart at the end and one of the things it says is "If God didn't make it, don't eat it." What?! I'm sure the author is talking about processed foods, but she needs to realize that not everyone believes those things are wrong. You shouldn't state your opinion and call it scripture. Over all, this book had potential, it just fell flat. The feel like the author should have done more research and in depth studying before writing this book.EDIT: I decided to go ahead and finish it and wow. The chapter entitled "Heaven" really upset me. The author states that Heaven is "the earthly things that bring love and delight" and states that an old boyfriend of her grandmother's was her grandmother's heaven. No. No, no,no, no, no! Heaven is where those who are Christian's will spend eternity with Jesus Christ, not earthly things or people. Has the author even read the Bible?
