I tried filling my nursing clipboard that's an inch think with the metal clamp and it fits. I suggest you place a harder folder to keep the edges from being folded if you want it neat. Hope this answers your question :) **Q: I live in an area where hurricanes occur. Is this truly waterproof?** A: The item has a regular zipper under the flap. The flap has Velcro only along the bottom, not on the sides so it is not sealed. I have not filled mine to capacity and folded over the flap onto itself . That might seal it from water however if a splash happens yes it might be waterproof, if it is floating w/ the zipper up it might stay content dry, if underwater perhaps not. Good sturdy material. Have not tested it for fire or water. You need a zip-lock bag to hold items that totally seals then place in the bag for better experiences and security perhaps. **Q: will a 2 inch binder fit in it?** A: The bottom is not flat however the front and back to open a bit. I am not sure this is the right one unless the binder is a small size. There are others w/ a flat bottom that opens but that might be of better service to you. I needed a way to feel safe that all of my families birth certificates, passports and other sensitive documents were protected so I gave this bag a shot. The first thing I noticed is how much the bag actually holds. I also put a bunch of old pictures of my family, a bunch of USB drives and even an external hard drive in the bag and there was still room for more.The design of the bag feels much more professional than a lot of the other bags I was looking at, which is good for people who want to use these bags at work. Nice work on the logo.Because I want to have piece of mind, I will be subjecting this bag to various tests. I already tried to light it with a lighter and matches and nothing happened to the bag. I'll try and report back with my findings but so far so good.UPDATE:I want to do a quick video update on how this bag held up with different types of fire for those of you wondering about its actual functionality.I first tried it on a stove knowing that the temperature of the fire is way above the bags description (~1600+ F vs. 1110 F). To my surprise, it actually withstood with the inside intact. That was definitely important to find out since I needed to know in case of a real fire, that this bag can last long enough for me to grab and this test proved that it can.Then I did another test with a regular lighter (~1000 F) and that passed with no problem. Now I want to try it with different scenarios like lighting a firecracker inside!I have since bought another bag to put in my safe knowing that I have an extra level of protection. I see a lot of people giving five stars and yet they immediately say afterwards they haven't tested it. The product says tested up to 1100 degrees. This is exactly where the temperature for a house fire begins (cited from multiple sources). Flash fires and chemical fires, like those seen when a house burns down, can exceed 3000 degrees, especially if the heat has nowhere to go, which would well surpass this item's test limit. I myself melted the binding with a lighter (700 degrees), which opens the bag seams. I don't see how you can give something 5 stars and not even test it under a flame. I give three stars because the folder itself is great and sturdy. But the binding can be melted easily, which then splits the seams that hold the folder closed. I would sadly not trust a sum of cash or documents in this occasion.
