Use a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm cable. I bought a short 6 inch cable for less clutter and rest my phone next to the recorder. I record audio off YouTube, but you could use Spotify, Pandora or other sources. A lot of other answers are confusing because the recording you get isn't perfect. It records to blank tapes in mono. Yes it records phone to tape just fine. Would this be a good find?** A: yes. there is not much out there anymore when it comes to tape recorders. Everything is turning digital **Q: can I plug this into my computer?** A: When recording a mono player to a your computer, use a mono to mono 3.5mm (1/8") phone cable. This will allow you to record the single audio channel from the cassette recorder to the computer's stereo with the same signal for both the left and right channels. Fine for the price. The mic...what did you expect? lol...saw a review saying it wasn't good...of course it isn't. You get what you pay for, it works. If you want more pay more simple as that.
