Sewing the strap is easy. I use a Brother CE8080 with a "walking Foot" attachment and polypropylene thread for upholstery; which doesn't stretch. Where the two pieces meet, sew a line at the edges ( a square or rectangle) and an "X" in the middle. As to riveting: To reinforce the sewing I used 3/16" aluminum blind rivets with washer backers. Four of the straps I've replaced are ratcheting tie downs used to anchor a tubular steel carport canopy frame to the cement driveway with cement sleeve anchors. Also, after replacing the cover fabric twice in one year due to wind damage, I installed corrugated roofing panels to the frame instead. Three additional straps are wrapped over the outside and bolted to the ground to keep the panels tight to the frame. We've already weathered a 65 mile-an-hour dust storm in Phoenix just last week. My neighbor's palm tree was blown down on top of his truck. But, my carport? The strapping held as if the wind wasn't blowing at all. Good stuff, this.
