My Dad remembered these stories and shared them with me. He mentioned them during a conversation and i knew it was a perfect gift as he is aging and no longer leaves the house. A very readable version of these great tales. The original is too difficult to read and is definitely politically incorrect. While Lester's version still keeps some black dialect, I have heard whites use worse English and don't think anyone will be offended by it. These stories are meant to be told to kids, not read. I advise story tellers to use this book as a source, then tell the stories in their own words. Modern kids love these stories as much as we did when we were young. Let's not let the next generation miss out on these stories that are a part of our national heritage.
