Review: Looks like a quality product. - When you buy aftermarket car parts, it is always a good sign to see the manufacturer cast their name into it, and that's what this had. (The exceptionoften being Dorman) The original unit was made by Valeo, and... I forgot the name of this one, but the logo matched what was on the actual lock cylinder. If you have a VW/AUDI where the key gets progressively more difficult to turn and gets a little scary when you can't turn the engine off, this is what needs to be replaced. It is pretty easy to do, and there is an excellent YouTube video on it. Something in the old one wears out. Only time can tell how much longer this one holds up, but I predict that it won't, simply because the overall design is flawed, and duplicating the original won't fix the problem, unless there is more inside of it that will make the difference that cannot be seen from the outside.

A: Nothing needs reprogramming although the 2 bolts that hold the steering lock in place are theft bolts and u can remove them with a punch and hammer gently tap them counterclockwise and they will loosen then you can turn them with your fingers. I do this often

I've had this exact one installed for just over one year and it is failing the same way the factory one does. It's inexpensive for a reason and will get you through for a bit, but not for an actual long term fix. Plan on it lasting one-two years at best. Still not bad for the price.
