Set in the Haitian ghetto, these fresh scenes were inspired by those originally created in 1909 by the artist Pamela Colman-Smith. The scenes were replicated by Alice Smeets with the assistance of a group of Haitian artists called Atis Rezistans using only material they were able to find or create locally. I’m disappointed because the deck is so beautiful but as a photographer I can’t put work out there with spelling mistakes and it’s not just my deck my friends in the states also noticed the errors. Fortunately amazon refunded me. If you don’t mind the spelling mistakes go for it, but if you are picket like myself then don’t it’s an irratation. Great pictures but had a couple of spelling errors( the emperor and strength cards). People have said these may have been intentional but if so why was this not stated somewhere and why were they spelt correctly in the accompanying book? The pictures are so beautiful, it makes me smile. There has been a lot of care in re-creating the RW illustrations. Everything about the photos is just great. Even the ones I didn't like at first, make sense after reading the few textlines in the booklet. The cards are firm and of high quality. The only downsides for me are that they are way too big for me to handle in a normal hand-to-hand shuffle and the box is a bit big (it's a bit bigger that the cards). I usually prefer the cheaper cardbox sleeves. I am sure that despite of the big size, I will use this deck instead of my standard RWS-deck (which is my go-to-deck).
