## Description

PEC-12 is designed to remove non-water-based stains, grease and inks from photographic emulsions and bases. It removes finger oils, grease pencil, adhesive tape residues, smoke and soot damage, gold foil stamp and most ball-point and permanent inks. PEC-12 will aid in the removal of firmly affixed adhesive tape. Graphic arts applications include the easy removal of wax and rubylith. PEC-12 is a waterless Photographic Emulsion Cleaner which is suitable for use on most film and print emulsions. It is a blend of organic hydrocarbon solvents with a neutral pH and is free from chlorofluorocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. It dries instantly, leaves no residue, and meets archival needs. Because it contains no water, PEC-12 will not cause emulsion swelling, tackiness, water marks or other damage associated with re-washing. NO HIDDEN OR LONG-TERM DAMAGE PEC-12 has been by an independent organization concerned with photographic preservation. It found that PEC-12 will not cause any hidden or long-term damage to photographic images. It has no adverse effects on long term B&W or color image permanence or on dye stability. Review: Miracle photographic emulsion cleaner. - Working with printed photographs for 50 years. I have never seen anything that can clean photographic emulsion as good as PEC. It help salvage $350 worth of photographs.
Review: Superb cleaning fluid - PEC-PAD have a reputation that needs no further reviews. The Photographic Emulsion Cleaner is superb. It easily cleans off 40+ year old adhesive residue on my old 8mm films. Quickly dries with no streaking and residue when wiped down with a PEC-PAD. This fluid works as well or better than some 40+ year old Kodak film cleaner that I had. Probably without the toxic or environmentally unfriendly VOCs. Unfortunately I did not tighten the cap completely the last time I used the Kodak cleaner and it evaporated away. The only complaint I have is the cleaner evaporates so quickly from the pads you have little working time if needed. I apply to fluid to a cotton swab and wipe it down with a pad. If I need to cover large areas I'll moisten a pad.

**Q: How many film strips can i clean with 1 bottle? also, is 1 bottle enough for 100 sheets of pec pads?**
A: I've done literally 1000's of feet of 8mm film and barely put a dent in the bottle BUT... you need to understand that PEC is a potent solvent and evaporates very quickly. I can clean a 500' reel of film with one PEC Pad and just a few drops of PEC while spooling the film across and hand cranked movie editor. Takes maybe a minute. Cleaning individual film strips (I'm assuming 5"-6" stripes of negatives) is going to be a very time consuming operation and the PEC fluid is going to evaporate quickly. That said, depending on how dirty the film is and how well you manage the pads, I suspect you'll run out of pads long before you run out of PEC. MOST IMPORTANT NOTE: As noted above, PEC is a very potent solvent. You must use it sparingly and in a well ventilated location. Just a few whiffs of the stuff will make you lightheaded.

**Q: Can you clean old postcards with this?**
A: I highly doubt it. I would assume it would dissolve the ink. It is meant for cleaning film and slides which are dye based.

**Q: Does this work to clean older (as in 20-40 years) slides and negatives?**
A: Works well for me. I use it to clean negatives, E-6 slides and Kodachrome slides prior to scanning. Most of this film was shot in the mid 80's to mid90's. I should add that my negatives and slides have always been well protected and the cleaning needed is minimal.

**Q: Safe on camera sensors?**
A: It seems so, sorry that doesn't answer your question. They are too stiff for use with PEC-12 to clean slides--seems like they dig unevenly into emulsion coating. I've had better luck on slides with softer cloths used to clean glasses with fragile coatings (available at opticians).

PEC-PAD have a reputation that needs no further reviews. The Photographic Emulsion Cleaner is superb. It easily cleans off 40+ year old adhesive residue on my old 8mm films. Quickly dries with no streaking and residue when wiped down with a PEC-PAD. This fluid works as well or better than some 40+ year old Kodak film cleaner that I had. Probably without the toxic or environmentally unfriendly VOCs. Unfortunately I did not tighten the cap completely the last time I used the Kodak cleaner and it evaporated away. The only complaint I have is the cleaner evaporates so quickly from the pads you have little working time if needed. I apply to fluid to a cotton swab and wipe it down with a pad. If I need to cover large areas I'll moisten a pad.

Good kit, been using to clean old slides before scanning them. The kit seemed a little expensive but was worth it. So far I have cleaned over 600 slides.
