    Dark Horse's hidden gems

A superb box set from the Dark Horse himself. George never really changed throughout his solo career, he wasn't interested in fashion or trends, just immaculately arranged and recorded music played with primo musicians. All Thing Must Pass and Living in the Material World remain his best albums, but this collection from the 1976-92 when he had his own label (Dark Horse, obviously) is remarkably strong and consistent. Even a lesser album like Gone Troppo, which doesn't contain anything particularly well known, has its hidden charms. This set is also worth it for the brilliant double live album from George's shows with Eric Clapton & Band - the level of playing is pretty damned high, to say the least, and Hari does a great cross section from his Beatles and solo repertoire. Nice DVD (including a Dark Horse doco and selections from the Japan gigs) and booklet too, with some liner notes from Rolling Stone's David Fricke. And I reckon Thirty Three and a Third and Cloud Nine rank among George's best work. Highly recommended.

You'll kick yourself if you miss out on this!

It's great to see some of these videos again after so long. I remember watching some of the videos released with the singles from 'Cloud 9' when they appeared in 1987 and I'd forgotten just how good they were. There's also some outtakes from the 'Live In Japan' tour which I hadn't previously seen, with George and good friend Eric Clapton playing up a storm together.I'd forgotten how Monty Python-esque George's videos tended to be- especially in the videos for 'This Song'and 'Crackerbox Palace'. Equally bizarre is the psychedelia of 'When We Was Fab' and the British version of 'Got My Mind Set On You' with its dancing furniture. There is also some commentry from the man himself about the meanings behind the songs and his life. It's inspired me to buy some of the early Harrison albums missing from my collection. Highly recommended to any Harrison fan and also to those who just need reminding of this guy's talent.

    Anything George is good

This is an eclectic collection of George’s work. I personally would have liked a few more videos & im not keen on the film score for Shanghai Surprise but that’s just personal taste. Well worth having if you’re a fan of George’s work though. Nicely packaged as well
