Review: One of the better waterproof memo pads out there - You are paying a premium for these waterproof memo pads but you get what you pay for. Rite in the Rain averages about $5 a pad but they are cut and assembled well, open easily, and have a good feel to the paper. They come in two colors tan and green (really military tan and olive). I prefer the lighter tan colored version due to the slightly better contrast with dark inks. All edges are smooth and no sharp or pointy parts to the covers on these memo pads. The pads don't pry open like the similar (and cheaper) Cosmos waterproof memo pads (also sold in packs of three). There is an attention to quality and detail to Hesse pads. Given they are waterproof, you have to use certain inks to write. Gel pens will not work with this pad. Best results are permanent marker or pencil. I've had good results with Uniball power tank pens and jetstream pens. No uniball sigmo pens as they are water based inks. Fountain pens are basically a no no. I've tried two other waterproof pocket sized pads. One was branded MeMo from a Hong Kong stationary store names stationeryart that were very nice. Those cost $2.75 plus S&H. The paper was a little thinner but felt a little nicer the the rite in the rain branded ones and had an integrated elastic band to keep the memo pad closed. It also had a nice fit and finish. The other was the Field Notes brand Expedition series. These are made of Yupo Synthetic Paper which is waterproof and tear proof. It is extremely durable with a simple design. They are sold in packs of three for $9.95 plus S&H. As long as you're fine with the price, the Rite in the Rain memo pad are of high quality with excellent fit and finish. Easily besting the Cosmos waterproof memo pad also sold here on desertcart. Samples of all the pads were left submerged in a sink under weights for a half hour with no notable problems, damage, or deformations. Except for the Field Notes Expedition Series all paper soaked significantly but never tore and dried very quickly. Since the Field Notes Expedition Series is made of Yupo Synthetic Paper which is actually recycled plastic, the paper does NOT get soaked but it is the hardest to write on given you're writing on plastic.
Review: Right for everything really - I adore these things, they're the perfect size for travel including for my side bag for when I ride, I always like to take notes on the go and nothing has helped me more than being able to write anywhere anytime and not worry about the notepad falling apart! I've sued it for restaurant work, outdoor projects etc. Its firm, handy and pretty thick, some pens aren't the best on it, but I tend to write with sharpies or gel pens mostly

## Features

- WEATHERPROOF PAPER: 100 pages / 50 sheets per pocket notepad. All-weather paper won’t turn to mush when wet and will repel water, sweat, grease, mud, and even survive the accidental laundry mishap. Make sure your pocket notebook stays RIGHT in the Rain.
- WIRE-O BINDING: Tough impact-resistant Wire-O binding won't lose its shape in your back pocket or backpack. Unlike a standard spiral notebook, Wire-O keeps your open pages aligned and intact.
- WRITE IN THE RAIN: When wet, use a standard #2 pencil or an all-weather pen. Standard ballpoints and permanent markers will work when paper is dry. Water-based inks will bead or wash off Rite in the Rain Paper.
- WATERPROOF NOTEBOOK COVER: Polydura material creates a tough but flexible outer shell. Whether you're needing a hiking journal, outfitting your police gear, starting a golf journal, or just keeping a shower notebook, the Polydura Cover material will defend your field notes from scratches and stains.
- RECYCLABILITY: Unlike synthetic waterproof paper, wood-based Rite in the Rain is completely recyclable. Please recycle Rite in the Rain as you would other white or printed papers.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Peace of mind is worth the price!
*by K***R on March 22, 2026*

I've used these top spiral 3x5 notebooks a long time, and carry one with me everyday rain or shine. They are tough and I value each one I use. They cost more, but the piece of mind they offer, being waterproof, is worth it. I purchase 6 at a time. I prefer the yellow or blue colored notebooks because the paper is white. I use a Rite-in-the-Rain Rain orange ballpoint or a mechanical pencil. That's all you need. Great, and I mean, great product.
