I'm not saying that it's a quick fix solution. Nothing is accomplished in life by taking shortcuts! If everyday you do one chapter with a pencil in the book I'm sure that after 3-4 months at least your written English skills should improve. When to use 'the', 'a' and 'an' and when to leave them out is a big issue in India among those who speak/write English. Also which preposition to use along with which verb in a sentence is a big issue in India. The exercises in this book are easy and on the level of 7-8th standard English levels and is highly recommended for those in the corporate sector or even working professionals with years of corporate level experience where English isn't their mother tongue! Give this grammar book a try and you'll not regret it. It contains 114 chapters with an appendix and the answers are given at the back as well (please don't cheat but diligently do the exercises on your own without taking any help!). This publication from Cambridge University Press is highly recommended and can be given as a gift as well. I'm giving it five stars all the way. Although there is loads of material to work with, the layout is cramped – might want to use a separate notebook to write out your answers. Intermediate and advanced books are great. Best part is the answer key is included. Makes life easier!  Language is suited to Asian students (I do not appreciate the explicit distinction on the cover though). Examples are provided. There are a variety of exercises and formats for each section , makes practice fun. Plenty of b&w sketches included. Fantastic to use if you’re a teacher like me, each section and exercise is categorized ,planned and illustrated neatly . Since English was not a medium of conversation in my family, my spoken and written English both lacked clarity. In my childhood, I heard that Wren and Martin is the best book for English Grammar; I purchased a copy too and later found out that it was not helping enough. I needed a book that would help me start with the basics and put me to the test for each concept. Luckily I got hold of Raymond Murphy's this book in my college library. It was exactly the format that I needed. This book presents every topic in lucid details and provides the exercises for practice. The pages on the left teach the concepts in simple language, and the page on the right gives you different problems to solve and test your skills. This book has around 120 Units, each having a small brief about the grammatical rules. This 'short session' approach helps in mastering each concept in detail. The best part is that the book also contains the answers, which allows us to rectify our mistakes. In other popular books, there are no answers, and you have to buy separate help books for answers. After Completing this Essential English Grammar book, it is recommended to go for the Intermediate and Advanced Grammar books by the same author to increase the scope of learning. Overall, this All-In-One (Concepts+ Exercises + Answers) book helped me make my English better.
