Newline has a new compnay motto: "F@#$ the fans."

Mortal Kombat is actually a decent movie, the one star isn't for that. No, it's for the half-assed DVD production. Seriously. My 20 year old, obsolete, laserdisc player has better picture, sound, and special features. This DVD was apparently produced via Newline giving a film school intern 2 full-screen VHS tapes of the movie and then telling them to "put this on a DVD". What, you couldn't even dig up the Letterboxed DVDs that preceded this? It even says "Widescreen" on the jacket. Seems the intern didn't get that memo. Maybe Newline just wanted to go out of their way to show their contempt for the fans of this film.Other lazy studios would have just put the 2 already produced DVDs in one case with new artwork, seems that Newline can't even accomplish that.In any case, I'm really sick of the lack of respect that studios have for their customers. Well F@#$ you too, NewLine.

I love me my Mortal Kombat

It's a good movie, and no, the animation isn't great (especially MK Annihilation), but it's an older movie too. I seem to recall at the time we were pretty impressed by the animation, after all it was 1995/97. It's premise is fairly along the same lines for the games (though there are several MKII game references in the movie), and it is pretty predictable (it's based on a fighting video game, you want hard core story, this is not necessarily the right genre) and it's an enjoyable watch. Nothing epic, obviously. The only downside is that MK:A definitely was no where near as good at MK, in both visuals, plotline (they seemed to be all over the place), and acting. I really wish they had gotten Christopher Lambert again for Raiden, and I thought Bridgette Wilson played a better (more stoic, I'm tough girl) Sonya than Sandra Hess. Still, every now and again you want to watch the other one (ok I do at least), so I'm glad I got the 2 pack for that circumstance.

    Wow!

I can sadly/proudly say that I saw both of these movies in theaters when they came out in the 90s. No, they arent very good and yes, almost all of the characters change between the first and the second movie (the funniest is Jax... they basically found a black guy who looks nothing like the Jax from the first movie). The Raiden in the second movie looks almost identical to the first movie's Raiden, even though they are played by different actors!Anyway, these are basically the movie version of Rebecca Black -- they are so awful that they're wonderful. The acting is TERRIBLE, the plots make almost no sense, and just about nothing is explained. The special effects are hilariously bad too. However, fans of mortal kombat will love these movies for how cheesy they are. I know I did.
