They are far superior to the purpose built tweezers sold at fabric stores. I use them to thread needles, pick out thread when using a seam ripper, and tugging out the occasional rats nest from a sewing machine stitch plate. I find that I have to tweak each tip slightly with a pair of pliers. They work best when the serrated tips are perfectly parallel. They are stamped "German Stainless" which doesn't really mean anything. They are ferromagnetic, as are many varieties of stainless steel. This is a desirable quality for me as I frequently drop things (pins, needles, these forceps) on the floor and can pick them up with a telescoping magnet. These are nice and stiff, presumably hardened. I've only lost one pair to a fall--one of the tips broke off. At the price I can buy several pairs, and don't mind that they are prone to fracture. Such is the tradeoff between hard and ductile steel. Cynamed also makes a version of these with a bent tip. Those to are excellent. I use the bent tip version when threading my serger.
