The soft close feature took some time to get used to, but I don't think I can ever be without it, I find myself accidentally slamming all of my other cabinet doors now. If for some reason you don't like the soft close feature it can be turned off by sliding the little switch located on the inside of the hinge, then it will operate about 95% of a normal hinge with a slight dampening effect right at the end of the swing to avoid a slam. These have been installed for 6 months now with absolutely no issues to report. I am confident these will last a very long time. Different cabinet door edge styles will vary- however for shaker styles with nearly no outer-edge routing taken away around the door border, 3 seems ideal. It had NO treads (see included photo). Also, the screw that was provided that is used to secure the hinged door to the cabinet facing was not the correct screw for this.
