## Description

Wall Street Journal and New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni’s coming-of-age story is, according to Booklist , “a novel that, if it doesn’t cross entirely over into John Irving territory, certainly nestles in close to the border.” Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered, buoyed by his mother’s devout faith, his father’s practical wisdom, and his two other misfit friends. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design―especially not the tragedy that caused him to turn his back on his friends, his hometown, and the life he’d always known. Running from the pain, eyes closed, served little purpose. Now, as he looks back on his life, Sam embarks on a journey that will take him halfway around the world. This time, his eyes are wide open―bringing into clear view what changed him, defined him, and made him so afraid, until he can finally see what truly matters. Winner of Suspense Magazine ’s Crimson Scribe Award.

Review: incredible!! - Title: "A Heartfelt Journey Through The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell" As a 54-year-old mom, reading "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell" by Robert Dugoni was a poignant and emotionally resonant experience. The narrative follows the life of Sam Hill, a boy born with ocular albinism, and tracks his journey from childhood to adulthood as he navigates the challenges of being different in a world that often values conformity. From the very first pages, I was drawn into Sam's world, feeling the weight of his struggles and triumphs as if they were my own. Dugoni's storytelling is both raw and tender, capturing the complexities of human emotions with a grace that took my breath away. As a mother, I couldn't help but see my own children in Sam's willing spirit and unyielding resilience. The character development in this novel is exceptional, particularly in how Sam evolves over the years. Through the highs and lows of his life, I found myself rooting for him, crying with him, and celebrating his victories as if they were milestones in my own family's journey. The themes of friendship, love, and self-acceptance are beautifully interwoven into the narrative, offering timeless lessons that resonate deeply with readers of all ages. What struck me most about "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell" is its ability to provoke introspection and self-discovery. As a mother, I was challenged to reflect on my own prejudices, biases, and preconceived notions about what it means to be different. Through Sam's eyes, I gained a newfound appreciation for the beauty that lies in embracing our unique qualities and using them to illuminate the world around us. This book is a testament to the power of resilience, the strength of the human spirit, and the enduring bonds of love that shape our lives in ways we may not always comprehend. As I turned the final page, I was left with a profound sense of gratitude for the reminder that in embracing our vulnerabilities, we find our greatest strengths. In conclusion, "The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell" is a poignant and unforgettable novel that will stay with me long after I finish reading it. Robert Dugoni has crafted a masterpiece that speaks to the heart, stirring emotions and sparking introspection in a way that few stories can. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to readers of all ages, as its message of courage, acceptance, and love transcends the boundaries of time and resonates with the universal human experience.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Extraordinary

Enjoyed very much the story of Sam Hill. I was very invested in it and just wanted to jump in the book during those difficult moments. Would have given it a 5 star but at one point I felt that everything was rushed to end the story. Other than that it was a great read.
