It should be highlighted in bold before you ever think to install it. It's barely detectable on the cable itself which end goes where. I drywalled over mine only to realize once I turned the projector on that the cable was installed the wrong way. It's obviously my fault, but there should have been a serious warning on the package or on the cable itself.
