Think of this as a non-emollient (oil free) serum. This HYDRATES by adding water and actives, it does not MOISTURIZE by sealing in (it contains no occlusives), nor does it add a layer of "conditioners." **Q: I have heard that Benton has had some quality control issues in the past, anybody having any issues lately? mold, bad smelling etc.?** A: I purchased my first bottle in November and am essentially done with it (already placed an order for my replacement, just got here yesterday). The bottle was totally fine the whole time, didn't experience any of the issues mentioned. The second bottle also seems fine. I think Benton has taken care of the quality issue :) **Q: what is the manufacture date printed on the bottom of the bottle? thank you.** A: If you're worried about the contaminated batch on 3-15-14, its not that one. I checked and mine was manufactured in April. I just used it twice daily after washing my face under moisturizer ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by L***Y on 7 March 2026* When I first started using this serum, I didn't notice any difference in my skin and in fact, I thought it might have aggravated my mild adult acne. I was hoping it would act as a bit of barrier protection (and wrinkle relaxer) since I use a BHA toner, retinol, and benzoyl peroxide once a day. I quit using the serum. Cut to several months later when I noticed my skin starting to get a little irritated and weirdly flaky/dry in places (always been an oily gal), whether because of it having been winter or because I'm entering menopause. At any rate, I tried using the serum again at night before my benzoyl peroxide, and, while it didn't completely erase the flakiness, it definitely helped a great deal.
