## Description

Work at your own pace thanks to variable roller speed

Review: Well worth the extra money...and better than a piece of jewelry - I went through a long debate about buying this rotary iron and the reviews were very helpful. I did have an electrician put in a 220 line. I also did the research about the Singer rotary iron, but when I called the various Singer distribution centers 4 out of 5 didn't know what I was talking about. Before I bought mine, I called Miele to ask some questions and ended up talking to real human beings who were gracious and well-informed. Not ten minutes on terminal hold with bad music playing in my ear. I considered the 990 which a friend of mine has, but you have to dampen the items beforehand and I don't feel that well-organized. With the HM 16-80, you plug it in, add tap water, and press the button. Takes maybe three minutes to heat up. I haven't mastered the big items, but napkins and pillow cases are a breeze. I've discovered there's a whole subset of women who love to iron and it's like a secret club. The rest of the world thinks we are truly nuts.
Review: Good, but not perfect. Speeds up ironing large table linens. - It works well for large table linens. You do have to pull the linens out into your legs as you iron, otherwise they will bunch up and wrinkle. This machine will remove 90% of the wrinkles, however, it's not perfect and you will still need to go back over with a hand iron to finish the job. Regardless, it's still much faster than using only a hand iron. It gets 4/5 stars since a hand iron is still required to finish the job for large table linens.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone had the MIELE 990 without steam? How does it compare in getting out wrinkles and speed?**
A: I have had a model 890 for a good 10 years and I love it. Not only does it do the job, but I find it very Zen. It is relaxing. I know of no differences between the 890 and the 990.

I have been looking for the steam model for many years and once drove 11 hours to buy one only to discover that the seller had mis-advertized it and it was, in fact, a 990. Arrrrggggh.

In the meantime, I use this sprayer set on "mist". It is the best I've found.

**Q: Please coul dyou tell me the gross weight?**
A: Hi, Andrea. I think it's in the neighborhood of one hundred pounds though I couldn't swear to that. I just received my Miele HM 16-80 last week and I'm in love with it. It's very easy to set up and it's no problem at all to roll from place to place. I keep mine in a closet and pull it out when I need it. The weigh really isn't relevant to the operation unless you picture lifting it for some reason. I looked at the Singer equivalent but there's no service to be had. Miele is wonderful. I called their customer service line twice in advance of ordering my rotary iron and ended up talking to real human beings who were actually helpful. What a concept!

**Q: does it have to be installed by electrician**
A: The HM 16-80 does require a 240V 1 phase outlet. I had a dedicated circut installed during new construction so I could use this model of Miele or a 240V steam iron. Initial heating time and recovery time are much faster with 240 volts. You could also use an electric dryer outlet (which are 240V) if it is nearby by changing the plug on the Miele cord or adding a companion outlet next to a dryer outlet that will accept the special plug (90 degree prongs).

**Q: Has anyone used this to prepare fabric for sewing? would it distort the fabric? Is it suitable for various types of fabric (both woven and knit ect)**
A: Any type of fine cloth can be ironed. I have ironed tens of 9 Yard Indian ornamental silk sarees of absolute fine quality cost in $2000 at my home. This will not hurt any cloth. My only suggestion to Miele is to provide a spare roller fabric for the price we paid for their large 220 volt unit.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love this iron
*by S***O on June 15, 2015*

Thank you Miele! I have only ironed about 5 items in the last 12 years, but we just purchased a Bed and Breakfast so ironing cotton sheets is now a priority in my life. I cannot express how much I love this iron. I can iron a whole set of Queen sheets and make a bed in the time it used to take to iron one fitted sheet with a regular iron and board (with far less desirable results).
