This is a SERIOUS upgrade to my original heat shield. I always assumed the design was the same, but it is not, not even close. This is heavy, stainless, and designed to encourage heat distribution. I have no doubt that it will be a massive improvement over the original heatshield. That said, it fits nicely into the original spot, I highly recommend it as an upgrade to the older grills. I should have done this years ago.

My Danial Boone is about 7 years old and I have struggled for years with uneven heat, as much as 50 - 80 degrees from side to side. I did a custom mode so I could move the heat shield back and forth even before they started coming that way from GMG but its still a struggle to find the sweet spot. Dropped this in to the center and was within a few degrees side to side. Now that I see what's different, its basically a piece of steel on the bottom of each side of the shield that seems to do the trick. Wish GMG had figured this out in the beginning. Anyway it works and I am happy.

I have had a GMG Daniel Boone for 7 years and the inside parts were need of replacement. So I did a fact finding inter-net search and on GMG site and found they had changed the parts to a better design for heat distribution. I gutted my grill and changed the heat shield and grease tray and my grill is now brand new. Would highly recommend doing these upgrades. Also I changed the control panel to WI-FI also recommend.

I tried this new heat shield because the original one was warmer and 11 years old. Should have tried to straighten it before ordering this unit. I noticed my smoke rings penetration was not as deep as before after installing and using this new baffle design for several cooks. I removed and after eliminating the warped issue went back to the old baffle unit ( 3 piece ) and the smoke amount in meat was as before, a deeper smoke ring penetration.I could not recommend this new baffle.

Works much better than the old shield. Great heat distribution. Highly recommend
