## Overview

It comes with a free applicator for easy, adhesive-free installation that adapts to timber movement, ensuring long-lasting insulation. ## Description

DraughtEx A quick and easy way to stop floorboard draughts and heat loss Simple to install Saves £20.00 - £40.00/room/year on energy bills with added comfort Why Fill Floorboard Gaps? Gaps in between floorboards create cold draughts which lead to chilly rooms, discomfort during the winter months and increased heating bills. Floorboard gaps also allow insect infestation. Timber floors contract and expand throughout the course of their life. These variations cause alternative floorboard sealants such as papier-mache, wood filler and silicon to become ineffective and loose and eventually drop out. If you have experienced these problems, DraughtEx is the solution. DraughtEx will mimic the movement pattern of the timber and therefore remain in place. Thus retaining insulation, eliminating cold draughts and improving the comfort and energy efficiency of your home. Easy to install with the free applicator, DraughtEx requires no adhesives and compliments the overall finish of your floorboards. Its flexible properties allow DraughtEx to be applied to a wide range of gaps which will be completely sealed, and can also be used to seal gaps between floorboards and skirting boards. DraughtEx comes supplied with a free applicator and comes in 3 sizes: Thin for gaps of 3mm or less, standard for gaps of 3 - 7mm and thick for gaps of 8 - 12mm. Energy Savings A 12 x 12ft room has approximately 25 floorboards and an average gap area of 3.87ft² which is similar to a small window being left open. Based on the results of research carried out by The Energy Saving Trust, it is estimated that filling floorboardgaps can save a household up to £20.00-£40.00/room/year on energy bills and reduce its CO2 contribution by around 110kg. Box contains 40m roll of thin DraughtEx, Free Application Tool.

Review: Slightly fiddly, but great product - Last year we bought and moved into a 1900/1910 house, where the previous owners had removed the hall carpet and stained the original floorboards. Looks beautiful. One small issue: wherever the floorboards have been taken up to allow electrical or heating work to take place in the crawl space, there are gaps between boards and cold air flowing up unchecked. Various other solutions would fill the void but ruin the aesthetic of the floorboards (ie look like LVT, or laminate). With this, using the provided wheel, or in some sections: a fingernail to press into place, the look of the floorboards remains and the draughts are stopped. Definitely recommend if facing similar problems. Little bit fiddly at times depending on the size of the gaps, but worth the perseverance.
Review: It's good. - I got this a while ago but it didn't suit what I got it for. I tried to squeeze it beneath my laminate beading, because I could feel a draught coming from all the way around my floor. It didn't really seem to do anything so I just put it in my garage. Recently I decided the draught from my floor (laminate) was too much, and I couldn't bear another cold winder where my heating was just wasted. I ripped up my laminate flooring in order to put a good underlay and carpet down. When I'd ripped up the laminate, I remembered this product, so thought I may as well make use of it. Firstly, it is very tricky to get the hang of. My method ended up being using a 1p coin to lodge the start point of the draught excluder. I then gently rolled the provided tool across the gap in the floor boards, whilst with my other hand holding the excluder string and stretching it out whenever the gap became smaller. Sure enough, using this method allowed me to install the excluder inbetween the boards. It takes time, patience and strong knees (ended up buying some knee pads after an hour or so). Amazingly, the draughts did disapear. I completed half of the flooring and then ran out of product. Because of the difference in the completed half, compared to the uncompleted half, I even got another roll to finish the room. It lost one star because with about 8m of product left, the tool used to install it just broke to pieces. It's really good to use for installing it,, but its not built to last. All in all, I'd recomend it, especially if you live in an older house with a suspended timber floor, like I do. Eventually I want to use this stuff on the whole ground floor of my property, but I'll do it as and when I can be bothered to change the flooring. You will be amazed at how much cold air is brought into the home from underneath the flooring.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Im planning to sand and varnish my floor. Should I apply the draught excluders after sanding and varnishing or before?**
A: In my experience, after sanding. not varnishing the draft excluder will leave nice matte black gaps but you might like the shiny effect if they’re varnished. Sand, then do a test to see what you like for the ‘gaps’.

**Q: Nearly gaps in my boards are 4mm or less, but a few are around 5-6mm, would this be the right size to use? Is 4mm the absolute maximum gap for this?**
A: I think you'll be ok with this size. I bought the 8mm product, to begin with as some of my gaps were larger. In the end, I had to buy the 4mm too as for a lot of the gaps, I couldn't get the 8mm in.

For the larger gaps, the product may fall down lower into the gap so will have a slightly different look to when it's more snug.

**Q: How small will this go down to. I have gaps between 1 and 3 mm. Will it go in the 1 mm gap**
A: It might not go down a 1/2mm gap but would depend on how much you much you stretch it and push it down the gaps. I used it for a lot of very small gaps but did not measure them. I also had to use a table knife when pushing it down.

**Q: It fits below the surface? So do you have to fill the top of it - otherwise dust etc would accumulate?**
A: It fits as low as you decide to push it.
We intend to fill on top of ours, bought this partly to help the filler not fall out in time, as has happened before, so have pushed quite low. If you are not filling on top, or just don’t push it as low then less dust will gather but as the material is not sticky, even if dust did gather it would just get cleaned up in a vacuum I would think.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Love it!

I was a bit doubtful about this product, but honestly, it was much better than I expected! Very easy to install and learn, and immediately improves the look of the room, making it much more finished and clean, besides reducing significantly the the annoying dust between the gaps and the squeaky floorboards. I wish I had bought it sooner, and I’m sad to see that the 8mm is currently sold out, as some of my gaps were bigger, so I also recommend checking the right size of the floor gaps. I’m very happy I found this and just can’t recommend it enough!
