Review: Going back in time - I was more of an NSYNC fan when I was younger although I certainly wouldn't call myself a fan because I really didn't listen to this kind of music as a whole but when I did I preferred NSYNC. Recently I've gone back to listening to music around this time for some memories. First thing I will say is society seems to compare Backstreet Boys and NSYNC all the time as if they are close to the same, but I can say now listening that comparing them like that is a mistake. Their music really isn't that similar in my opinion and for me who started out with NSYNC when I would listen to Backstreet Boys I expected music like NSYNC, which is a large part of why I didn't like them that much when I was younger. I was more into uptempo songs and NSYNC definitely has a better list of uptempo songs. Backstreet Boys on the other hand don't have an extensive list of uptempo songs and thrive on the mellower songs. I recently saw someone ask online for 5 Backstreet Boys songs to listen to because they were an NSYNC fan and were looking into Backstreet Boys songs. My initial reaction to that would be are they a fan of all NSYNC or just the major hits of "Bye, bye, bye"/"It's gonna be me" songs, and secondly don't expect songs to sound just like NSYNC. Now to answer that person, I would recommend that person listen to the first 4 songs of Millenium album. First off "Larger than life" is one of their best uptempo fun songs however I would not say has an NSYNC sound to it, but is certainly one of their best songs although not a typical Backstreet Boys sound either. Then "I want it that way" and "Show me the meaning of being lonely" are more in line with the slow songs that are typical love songs that make up the majority of Backstreet Boys songs. Then "It's gotta be you" I would recommend because it definitely does have an NSYNC vibe musically and while not one of their best songs is fun and still pretty good. Lastly I would recommend "As long as you love me" because it is my favorite song they sing and again is more of what you can expect from them. So that being said if you like all of those songs you will likely find yourself liking a lot of their songs. If you like the slower songs, you will find they have a number of songs that are good that fit that mold. However if you don't like the slow songs but like the other 2 you will find others that you will enjoy but it will not be the majority, and if you just like "It's gotta be you" for the NSYNC vibes, you probably won't find Backstreet Boys as your thing. I did find it interesting that comparing NSYNC CDs to these first 3 Backstreet Boys CDs has a lot of similarities. I find NSYNC and BB's first albums to be the most solid meaning they have the most "good" songs, however their second albums were their best because they had some of their best songs while having more lesser quality songs mixed in. Their third albums were the worst with some really good songs but the songs that weren't I didn't care at all for. Ultimately though I made a playlist of songs that I really like from both NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, and it wasn't planned but when I got done I had the same number of NSYNC songs as I did BB songs. Additionally, I think "Don't Want You Back" is easily their best song that many people wouldn't recognize.
Review: I'm 12 Years old again! - I'm seeing BSB in Vegas so I'm on a kick to listen to everything BSB! I forgot how good Black & Blue is. It's an underrated CD. Their first (US) album is very young pop, but so fun. Millennium is just outstanding. After listening to all of these, plus two more of their other albums, Millennium is head and shoulders above the rest. Awesome set, especially for the price!
