I have used just about every other type of option available, and this type of product is what I come back to every single time. I have multiple strops loaded with a succession of different grits and they make an enormous difference in the sharpness and longevity of a cutting edge. They are also quite useful for polishing just about any surface.The most important aspect of any Diamond pastes is the consistency of the grit. I selected the "3,000+5,000+14,000" grit product with a range of, 3-6/2-3/0-1 microns respectively, and specified a 50% Concentration. These numbers are right in line with what I would expect and tells me that the manufacturer is likely being honest by disclosing a range instead of omitting important details. If you are using these for stropping your steel, this is probably the most useful set. Anything coarser can be accomplished with a diamond plate and finer would be overkill for an edge. (FYI, I picked up a belt kit and glued strips of the leather, rough side up, to some twelve inch 2x4's for my strops. They work great!)Only time will tell how well this paste will fair, but I am confident that, when used appropriately, the product will do a good job. I actually have a selection of lapping pastes (some of which were surprisingly expensive) and buffing compounds with which to compare this, and will commit to reporting back if I see anything other than the expected performance. Otherwise, please assume that I am happy with the performance.As an aside: I feel compelled to mention that the promotional photos appear to show a phone lens which has been polished. While that may seem like a good idea, I would strongly suggest against doing so. The coating on a lenses is, among other things, used to selectively block certain frequencies of light. Removing them will almost certainly adversely impact your photos. Basically, it is a waste of your time and effort. While I enjoy shiny things just as much as the next person, I hate wasting my time as well and hopefully this will save you from doing so too! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Diamond paste kit affordably upgrades my stropping *by on Reviewed in the United States March 31, 2025* I've grown dissatisfied using jeweler's green rouge for knife stropping: the chrome oxide abrasive breaks down immediately, and with repeated application the wax base gums up a suede leather strop. I ordered this diamond paste kit to improve my stropping capabilities. The 3000 grit paste is well suited for EDC knife stropping, and I'll reserve the 5000 grit paste for especially fine stropping. The 14000 grit paste is suitable for straight razor stropping; anybody who has shaved several times with a straight razor knows that smooth leather stropping does not maintain a straight razor's edge. And of course, these three pastes also permit polishing jewelry and glass objects.Diamond paste stropping required resurfacing my (not included) suede leather strop; I used 100 grit sandpaper to remove the wax-caked suede surface layer. I then twisted off the applicator's screw cap and applied about one-tenth of the 3000 grit paste to the resurfaced suede strop (see attached photo 1). The paste has a slight oily odor that IMO is not unpleasant. I used the knife blade like a spatula to spread the diamond paste over the suede strop before stropping the knife. Stropping a knife using this oil-based paste is very smooth (compared to stropping using wax-based jeweler's rouge). Attached photo 2 shows the strop and knife after stropping. Steel erosion during stropping darkens the diamond paste but the diamond paste does not break down, so a paste refresh is not necessary for each stropping new session and paste refreshes consume less additional paste. Residual paste wipes off the knife blade with cloth or a paper towel, and the stropped knife blade is noticeably sharp.Having three different diamond paste grades complicates stropping: mixing pastes would degrade the finer grits. My solution is having a (not included) second leather strop for the 5000 and 14000 grit pastes; I apply the 5000 grit paste to the second strop's suede side and apply the 14000 grit to the second strop's smooth side.
