You'll be unable to assign any of your WiFi devices specifically to the extender. It does work and has an ethernet port on the back to hardwire a steaming device or laptop, but if you can add wireless access points instead I'd recommend it. The signal will be stronger with a wireless access point compared to the extender. **Q: According to verizon, if i buy this router it does not support verizon fios services. that seems ridiculous. can anyone comment?** A: Interestingly, I had a cable solution previous to FiOS. FiOS to Cable and back to FiOS. This left me with a mesh router solution (Orbi) I had used to expand my cable modem/router I rented from them. The first router from FiOS had an intermittent problem and I called for service. After all their warning about I would have to pay if it is my issue, not theirs, blah, blah, blah -- I also told the very helpful service person the range was not nearly as good as they say. He told me I should plug my Orbi Mesh router system into the G3100. I said I read where you can't do that. He was surprised to hear that but said he believes that is only true if you are also using the router for FiOS "cable" television. If you are only using Verizon for internet access, you can connect a mesh router to this router and life is good. **Q: Will the My Fios App recognize the new router and if so is it any different?** A: Yes, but! You have to log the new router into Verizon. Follow the instructions online. **Q: What is the source of these routers? are they customer returns, nib, used?** A: I purchased my G3100 router brand new in box from Amazon.
