The large is just the right size for an adult. It's well made, looks great and is as cute as can be!This is to be part of some special gifts for a special neighbor on her 90th birthday...the "Viking Helmet Beanie" is to commemorate her moving here to Ballard (a Scandinavian neighborhood in Seattle).I'd previously ordered one of the plastic Viking helmets...big mistake! It was huge, uncomfortable, wouldn't stay on one's head and one of the horns and the spike on top kept falling off; it would have been something one wears for maybe a minute and a half and never again.This, on the other hand, is comfortable AND adorable...perfect! XS-S measures 18" around the inside (unstretched), S-M measures 20 1/2" around the inside (unstretched), and L measures 22" around the inside (unstretched).
