Dot 3 and dot 4 brake fluids can be mixed so if your still buying dot 3 for your older vehicle this is your wake up call!! Dot 4 is resistant to higher boiling temperatures than Dot 3. Since the high temps are what lead to brake fluid deterioration and then eventually the addition to water in the brake fluid that is the primary cause for corrosion inside your brake system. Seems to me, anyone who is in the know about automotive repair has more than likely already made the switch years ago when Dot 4 was introduced.
