Great book for new teachers who are looking to prepare for a successful first year of teaching. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Conscious Classroom gives freedom through patience *by C***H on December 29, 2017* What I liked most about Smith's Conscious Classroom Management book was that he stated what most of these books overlook, what is silently, put in place in a well managed classroom. I've taught for 18 years and I've read them all. They tell you about rules and consequences but they don't mention why teachers struggle with control. Smith says it outright, "Don't be apologetic about having authority," And "students are trying to learn the appropriate behavior; they need the teacher to show them what it looks like" That sentence alone allows educators to take a deep breath and start all over again. What good does it do to punish an already angry kid? But to be allowed to assume this is a kid who needs reminding, gives both teacher and student a chance to start over. This book gave me hope when I was ready to give up! Read it; read it again; live it and then share it with someone else.
