## Overview

Atticus Empero Nutsedge Killer is a professional-grade selective herbicide containing 75% halosulfuron-methyl, designed to eliminate tough nutsedge weeds by attacking their root systems. Its fast-dissolving granules mix easily with water, creating a rainproof solution within 4 hours that’s safe for most turf types and allows pets and people back on the lawn once dry. Ideal for established lawns and ornamental turf, Empero delivers visible results in 7-14 days, ensuring your outdoor space stays pristine and weed-free.

## Description

Empero is a selective herbicide aimed at controlling nutsedge in turfgrasses and other non-crop sites without the damaging effects that other herbicides leave behind. It provides outstanding control of purple and yellow nutsedge as well as many stubborn broadleaf weeds like horsetail. Empero contains the same amount of the same active ingredient as sedgehammer. The active ingredient, Halosulfuron starts working immediately on targeted weeds by stunting their growth, ultimately resulting in death of the weeds. Complete control typically occurs within 7 to 14 days depending on the weed size, species and growing conditions. Empero comes in an easy, mess-free water dispersible granule that rapidly dissolves with low-use rates. People and pets may re-enter the area once the solutions dries. Rainproof in as little as 4-hours.

Review: This stuff is amazing. Last season I used a product from the Home Depot. It took about 5 sprays to finally get ahead of the Nutsedge. It all came back this year. This year I tried the Empero. I mixed it with 4X surfactant and pattern indicator as instructed. I have 2 acres and about 0.7 acres had a good amount of Nutsedge. I mixed two batches in a 5 gallon sprayer and went at it. It's now been about 3 weeks and 2 cut cycles and I have to say I think it is completely gone. I am sooo happy with this product. My grass has no ill effects due to the spraying and the dye in the surfactant let me know what I sprayed or missed so I got every blade of Nutsedge. I'll let you know if any comes back next year. Supposedly this gets it down to the root. Anyway I have to say do not use anything else but this product. It is so awesome!!!!! I hate Nutsedge and I feel like I have won the battle!!! Here is my update. It killed 100% of the Nutsedge. So hoping it killed it to the root and it doesn't come back next summer. I'll let you know
Review: I had never heard of Nutsedge until this spring after moving into a new neighborhood last November. When mowing season came around, I noticed something in the yard that looked like grass but grew very quickly… Nutsedge. Three days after mowing, it would be 2 or 3 inches higher than the surrounding turfgrass. It was also growing in the pine needles around my shrubbery and in my monkey grass. I began pulling it out of the shrubbery beds. After about a month of this, I saw on a YouTube video that this was actually Nutsedge, and that pulling it was an absolute ‘no-no’ because it comes back with a vengeance. Empero is designed to kill Nutsedge. It’s a knock-off of SedgeHammer, has the same chemical make-up and is a little cheaper. It worked well for me on the Nutsedge, but I was careful to use it as instructed by the YouTube videos I found. The videos cautioned that it would not be effective unless used properly. I waited several days after mowing so I could identify the Nutsedge since it had grown taller than the surrounding grass. I used a pump-up tank sprayer to spot-treat where needed. After spraying, do not mow again for at least 2 days… I waited 3 or 4. According to the instructions, Empero is rainproof after 4 hours. It takes about 4 days, but the Nutsedge will slowly begin turning yellow and stop growing. It will eventually die but may take 4 or 5 weeks after spraying. The Empero did not damage my turfgrass or the Monkey grass in my shrubbery beds. I followed the mixing directions of 0.9 grams per gallon of water and added a little dishwashing liquid as a surfactant. Mixing as directed, the 1.33 ounce bottle will make about 40 gallons of solution. After adding the chemical to the water, I used a paint mixer attached to a drill and stirred the solution for 2 minutes to dissolve the granules. I used almost the entire bottle spot-treating one acre of grass. The included pic shows the Nutsedge (which has turned yellow) 7 days after treatment and 3 days after mowing. I had good success with this product and would not hesitate to use it again.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the application rate for sedge control in turfgrass?**
A: 0.9 grams (one level scoop) per 1,000 sq ft. Mix 0.9 grams of Empero with 1-2 gallons of water and 2 teaspoons nonionic surfactant.

**Q: Is Empero more concentrated if mixed with one gallon of water instead of two?**
A: No, the mixture is sprayed over 1,000 sq ft regardless of water volume resulting in 0.9 grams of Empero being applied.

**Q: Why should a nonionic surfactant be added to the solution mix?**
A: Surfactants improve coverage and efficacy of the product resulting in more effective control.

**Q: Will Empero control nutsedge without harming my lawn?**
A: Empero is a selective herbicide formulated to target yellow and purple nutsedge as well as green Kyllinga without negatively impacting the established turfgrass species. Never apply to newly seeded or stressed lawns.

**Q: Are there any tips to improve nutsedge control?**
A: Apply when weeds are actively growing and not stressed from heat or drought. If the soil is dry, water the night before application. Repeat applications may be needed for larger weeds and green Kyllinga. Allow several weeks for complete weed kill.

Good stuff - so far! The nutsedge was yellow brown and dying in 5 days in my front lawn. Noticeable yellowing in 2 days. I mowed it 7 days after application and it is stunted and dying still, the turf itself is doing fine. We will see after 4 weeks... Mix per the instructions. Definitely use a good surfacant and mix or agitate well. I applied 8 gallons of mix to my front yard using 20 gallon tow behind tank. All worked well. Would recommend, nutsedge is hard to kill. This stuff seems to knock the crap out of it.
