We have had this toy for some time now and it has stood up to frequent use with other light sabers in "battle." The only complaint I have is that it collapses only partially. **Q: Does the lightsaber light up?** A: Yes it does light up but it doesn't come with batteries. **Q: does it retract all the way?** A: Hi there ! The lightsaber does retract but not all the way into the hilt. I estimate there is about 3 or 4 inches of the colored part still showing when it retracts?
