The caterpillars always grow and turn into butterflies.I like that the refill cups come with every thing the baby caterpillars need. (We already have the butterfly habitat from Insect Lore.) They each come with 5 caterpillars and that's plenty.We live in a warmer climate and our caterpillars tend to grow quickly. I'd say within 2 weeks they go from caterpillars to butterflies. Watching them grow bigger each day is so fun.This is a great gift for kids of all ages.
