I was able to use the ethernet port immediately after plugging in and pressing the pair buttons. I did have problems with the software download from their web site. First, I was unable to get the download to work until the fourth or fifth try and then the app doesn't complete on my laptop. I'll be calling tech support to get it working. The software allows repeating of the wifi signal with or without a separate wifi login. This was not the primary reason for buying the unit but I'm on DSL and have problems watching some desertcart Prime and Netflix movies and thought this might help since the unit is installed right next to my TV. We'll see. The ability to create another physical ethernet port was the objective and the unit did that well.
