The metal part in the sole where the toe bends started coming out. I think I purchased those at least 5 years ago but could easily be 8. I still use my old sandals as my Summer Fun Backup that sits in my trunk. Shorts/shirt/Sandals...Because sometimes fun stuff pops up in your life after work and going home first can be inconvenient.Im 6'3 225(size 13) with an achy left knee from ACL surgery so I need a supportive, cushy, sandal. I wear these, like my previous ones...hiking, kayaking and everything else. I just cant wear regular flip flops anymore. I like to be prepared for anything and flippity flops just dont do it. But why did they decide to be cute and put the tying strap at the top of the sandal? It serves no functional purpose and it is a hassle to use the strap. It's probably just a gimmick to distinguish this model from other sandals. But when man (or woman) designed sandals hundreds of years ago with the strap at the back and has left it there for centuries we can surmise that was for good reason. Timberland should focus on make their sandals last longer, be more comfortable, or market different sandals for different arches or foot types. The fancy way of strapping them at the top was a great disappointment. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great for foot problems *by J***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2014* I'm a 68 year old male with a long history of foot problems: fallen arches, peripheral neuropathy, heel problems as well as arthritis in my left foot. My feet hurt most all the time in shoes. Living close to the ocean I walk the beach daily so I use waterproof sandals. Others I've tried haven't given me the arch support or they've smelled like hell after a few uses. For the last four years I've been wearing these Timberland Granite Trails and have had a great experience with them. Other than occasional chafing from a new pair they have been problem free. They are my only footwear that are pain free. I now own three different pairs in varying stages of wear. I've found that by cutting off the heel strap they make great slip ons. During the winter I use the slip ons around the house with socks and they serve as comfortable slippers.
