Opened or poorly sealed tabs should be vacume sealed for best shelf life. Also, I never cook over hexamine, use it to dry tinder and fuel to start a wood fire for safer cooking. Never inhale the fumes. **Q: Do these stink as bad as the esbit tablets?** A: Hexamine stinks. They stink up all your gear too, even unopened. This seller claims to have solved the packaged odor issue, which should prevent gassing off and preserve fuel life indefinitely. I will buy, and try.
