Springs hold the legs firmly in place. Economical. I bought this bipod for my AR15. I needed to zero my rifle. I did not want to rent a shooting rest at the shooting range due to it not being bolted to the table; and unstable, which makes zeroing a rifle troublesome. The ONLY thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is no way to attach a sling - in any way - under or to the bipod pic rail base. No tab, no ring, no cup, no swivel, no nothing. Find another place to attach your sling because it ain't going on here. That said, everything else is great about it especially for the price.
