**Q: What is it?**
A: It is a swageless cable railing competent used in a cable railing system.

**Q: What does swageless mean?**
A: Swage means "crimp;" swageless mean no crimping needed to attached the fitting to the cable.

**Q: is this swageless fitting suitable for a sailboat forestay?**
A: This year I installed these on my Northwest 21 sailboat to attach the main port and starboard shrouds. I had the boat on a gusty lake for several outings, and they held up to the boat's heel well. The working load of these is 400 lbs, and IIRC working load is commonly set at around 1/4 the breaking strength. For comparison, 1/8" stainless 1x19 cable has a WLL of 356 lbs and a breaking strength of 1,780 lbs, so in theory the cable should part before the fitting breaks. 

All that said, it's important to install the fitting correctly and follow instructions regarding sealing/thread locking to obtain the full strength. I'm just a guy on the internet too, so proceed at your own risk. If my rig falls down I'll come back and let you know.

**Q: is it recommended to remove the nylon coating on a cable  for maximum strength with a swagelees eye?**
A: Yes! Remove the coating to achieve the maximum grip strength.
