It can be quite hot against your skin, especially if just applied. It does work if your shirt is not tight to your skin and you are not resting against it, like when sitting in a chair. I will definitely do this if the pad is no longer at full strength. I can sleep on it when it is pressed to the outside of a sleep garment, and then attach it on the inside of a shirt the next day, as it is still warm for quite a few hours but no longer HOT. One hint here - only pull off one of the two adhesive strips. Save the other one to attach to a different garment if you change clothes. My pain is mostly lower back, so I will usually attach it to the inside of my waistband, between my pants and underwear. It really does help. **Q: Is there any way to stop the heat, like if you need to take it off for a prolonged period?** A: To stop the action, seal them in an appropriately sized plastic bag such as a sandwich or snack size. I mean the ones with the sealable opening. Before sealing push out as much air as possible. I have done after about 2 hours of use, and reused them a few days later. The heat is from a slow reaction that requires oxygen, so once the limited oxygen in the sealed bag is exhausted, the reaction stops until reopened. **Q: Just wanna make sure, does 40 count mean 40 pairs?** A: No it is 40 singles.They work great **Q: Is the body warmer too hot to be right up against the skin (i.e., if the adhesive is stuck to the inside of the shirt with the warmer against the skin** A: I have not try this up against the skin. I place it on the outside of a tee shirt then put my hunting clothes on over.
