Product Description Although its 2,000 horse power R-2800 "Double Wasp" engine and exhaust turbine made the aircraft necessarily large and heavy, these proved to be no barrier to high performance, and it was utilized not only as an escort to U.S. bombers but its bomb load capacity made it outstanding in the ground attack role. Nearly 12,602 'D' models were built, which is the largest total of one sub-type of any fighter in history, and total production of the Thunderbolt amounting to 15,660. Even after World war II, the P-47 was popular with many air forces until well into the 1950s. From the Manufacturer The P-47D was a workhorse of the U.S. Army Air Force during the last half of World War II saw action in both the European and Pacific theaters of the war. Although its 2,000 horse power R-2800 "Double Wasp" engine and exhaust turbine made the aircraft necessarily large and heavy, these proved to be no barrier to high performance and it was utilized not only as an escort to U.S. bombers but its bomb load capacity made it outstanding in the ground attack role.

Review: A decent model kit... - The Academy 1/72 scale P-47D isn't a bad model kit, it's simple to assemble, but it needs a little attention around it's seams & if you want an top notch details you'll have to add some aftermarkets to this kit. If you want to have really exquisite detail, with hassle free assembly & don't want to deal with aftermarkets though you're better off paying a bit more for the Tamiya kit. Personally, I bought this kit as it's the recommended base set to go with the Kora Models 1/72 scale TP-47G Double-Bolt conversion set.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What are the dimensions after assembly?**
A: This kit is 1 to 72 scale. When complete measures about 5 inches fuselage and about 7 inches wingtip to wingtip.

**Q: What paint colors do you need for this model kit?**
A: The basics are olive green for the wings and fuselage.  Red on the cowling and prop tips. Props black. Or some do the wings and fuselage in "aluminum " color scheme.  Google P47 and check out the various schemes and go with what you like. Testors and Vallejo and Tamiya paints are all good, though for me I stay with acrylic paint because it has less odor, and cleans up with water. Enamel does a number on my sinuses . Remember,  modeling is supposed to be fun and relaxing.

**Q: what type of glue do you use?**
A: Standard glue is Testors cement for plastic models available in hobby stores and on-line stores. However, I have migrated to using Gorilla super glue gel available in hardware stores, Walmart. Gorilla gel is easier to control during application and sets up faster. Don’t apply too much, though, as it can fog surrounding surfaces. For the canopy and other clear parts, use Micro Kristal Klear MI-9 adhesive.

**Q: any paint set you'd recommend to purchase with this?**
A: I just used a basic spray paint with enameled and thin brushes for the accents

The Academy 1/72 scale P-47D isn't a bad model kit, it's simple to assemble, but it needs a little attention around it's seams & if you want an top notch details you'll have to add some aftermarkets to this kit. If you want to have really exquisite detail, with hassle free assembly & don't want to deal with aftermarkets though you're better off paying a bit more for the Tamiya kit. Personally, I bought this kit as it's the recommended base set to go with the Kora Models 1/72 scale TP-47G Double-Bolt conversion set.

The kit arrived in great condition and on time. Haven't started assembly yet other projects in the pipeline before I can get to this. However, after checking the contents and perusing the directions it looks like a fairly straight forward project. As to skill level and age that all depends on your audience (gift or self). For the very first time build may be a bit of a challenge but doable. For more experienced modelers no problem. Glue and paints sold separately. Decals are included in the kit. (If you're not familiar with the 1:72 scale the fuselage with cowling will be about 7 inches nose to tail.}
