In recent times, governments have seen fit to interfere (by way of increasing taxes on "bad" things) with the end result being that recipes have had to change in an attempt to bring a greater degree of well-being to the nation (or to put it another way, remove/reduce some of the more harmful substances from what we devour). This of course is a good thing in general, but what annoys me is that my right to choose has been removed. The amount of sugar in this drink is massive, I admit. One 330ml can contains 31grams (about 5 teaspoons) of sugar (almost the same as a can of Coca Cola or Pepsi). Yes, this is bad. But you now can't buy fizzy drinks (apart from the aforementioned Cokes and Pepsis) with this kind of sugar level. What I would like is my choice back. By all means warn us of the dangers on the sides of the cans if need be, and by all means charge a whopping tax, but let ME decide if I want to buy it. I drink a can a fortnight and I bet it is less damaging to health than the daily consumption of some of the "reduced/low sugar" drinks. Lower sugar content naturally means fewer calories. A typical can of the "new taste" Fanta orange or Tango orange is nearer 20 calories per 100ml (Mirinda is nearly double at 38), but there is a world of difference in the taste and therein lies the problem. Until manufacturers really do find a GENUINE alternative for sugar (and by GENUINE I mean with the same taste), then leave the end-user to decide whether they want to buy or not.
