This of course, destroys the entire purpose and point of this product. I have not tried the Ethernet port. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Don't count on it reading your portable hard drive *by R***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2018* This is probably why my external hard drive won't display when attached to this adapter: " If the device connected is over 5W, please connect with an external power adapter." Problem is, neither this adapter nor my portable hard drive support an external power adapter. The adapter works fine for just a mouse. But I don't need it for just a mouse -- I can plug that directly into the Surface Pro. I haven't tried its other capabilities -- but I'm a little afraid to. It got awfully hot just plugged in with the mouse receiver in it.
